"Find a boat. Find a crew. Keep flying."
Hi guys,
This'll be the thread for my serenity campaign. It's targeted at primarily new players, and is already somewhat overbooked. The flavour of the campaign will be what we make it - I'm not going to lay down rules as to seriousness or sensibility, so we'll just see where it takes us.
A quick word on numbers: In an effort to one-up Neil's "can't say no to players" stance last year, I have accepted a staggering nine people for this game. How well this'll work out will be an interesting experiment, but it should be alright. As a warning, there may be the occasional session where I literally don't get round to giving your character the spotlight, but this shouldn't be a regular occurrence.
If nine does turn out to be too many (it is, incidentally, the number of the crew of the Serenity itself), I will unfortunately have to ask some of the more experienced players to leave. Terry has offered to run a Serenity game if there's enough interest, so in the event of me having to kick out some players, they should still be able to find a game.
Anyhow.
The actual party is as follows:

I know some people called dibs on certain character concepts, but to remind you all, the ones you almost certainly want to fill are Pilot, Engineer, Doctor, Silvertongue, Muscle and Gunslinger. Because of the nature of the serenity game system, you can mix and match to your heart's content - you can play a medic who knows a fair bit about firearms, a pilot with a quick wit and charming personality, et cetera. It also doesn't matter if you have some overlap - with the exception of perhaps pilot, having two people perform the same task simultaneously only benefits the ship and the party.
One final role to fill, which is less about your stats and more about how you plan to play your character; is Captain. Someone owns this boat, and has the power / responsibility to nay-say ideas. This is not an excuse to belittle the rest of the party, but it does give you the right to settle arguments. Pay for missions normally goes to you first, as does the blame for your boat or crew's actions. If only one person wants to be captain, that's simple enough - if more than one does, then the crew can vote on them.
We'll meet as soon as possible to make characters - probably somewhere on campus - but if anyone wants to start thinking of concepts, feel free to post them here or email / facebook them to me.
That's all, sorry for the wall o' text,
~Alex
