Carved deep into the Heart of Mount Sheol centuries ago, Tartarus was to be an un-escapable Labyrinth, housing the deadly and most dangerous criminals and creatures in the Kingdoms. Forged in Steel and Cloaked in Magic over generations, Tartarus was indeed the impenetrable Fortress envisioned by its Lords….five levels of cages and safeguards to prevent any prisoner from ever reaching daylight again. Tartarus became Legend. A nightmare; a warning to all who would wage war of the dire consequences awaiting them. Such was the reputation of the Prison that nobles and Lords from across the Land chose to store not just their captives but also their treasures there…such dealings were of course highly secretive but it said a great vault lies in Tartarus with the riches of ten generations of royalty….
Ten years ago, a new Prisoner entered Tartarus: the Half-Elf Sorcerer Ryle Wraithlyn. Rumours of his crimes were widespread, the details changing from teller to teller, with only the tales of his sadism and dark powers remaining constant. High Lord Ascalon ordered Wraithlyn to the Deepest Level of Tartarus, the Acheron, to serve as an example.
However, shortly after his entry, the Gates of Tartarus were sealed with no warning. Twice parties forced their way in, relaying word of a riot within the Prison before vanishing into its depths forever. Unable to regain control and fearing reprisals, the Lords ordered Tartarus barricaded – the cave of the mountain was brought down, burying the only path.
With ten years now past, supplies within Tartarus are believed to be exhausted, leaving the prisoners weakened or dead. Scores of would-be heroes and treasure hunters have breached the rubble, hoping to make their fortunes: none have returned. Yet the promise of the riches contained within, to say nothing of the fame awaiting those who would liberate the Prison, continue to draw more to its gates….
In response to the tales of dungeon delvers pillaging Tartarus, four great heroes have been requested to search it on behalf of the Kingdom. The rewards for such service would be great….
James, Adele, Sarah, Neil - let me know when you're free and we'll arrange a good time to do character creation and then finalise the time table for playing.

UPDATE: Resuming, with revisions and additions.
Group as it stands is now Neil, Becky, Alex, Ian.
Characters will be Level 10.
List of Allowed Books (at my discretion and whim): PHB PHB 2 Complete Adventurer Complete Warrior Complete Divine Complete Arcane I doubt I can manage to obtain physical copies to bring along with me by tomorrow at such short notice I'm afraid.
I am also open to other things, if presented reasonably.
Character creation is tomorrow at 2.30 - If a room can be secured, will be on campus, if not will be at my house, I will let people know as soon as I can. I will bring Neil and Sarah's old character sheets (if I can find them) in case they want to keep their old characters.

It has been brought to my attention that next Monday is Valentines day and I assume most of us have plans (I certainly do).
So, what days are people free to play instead, or would you rather skip a week?

Thursday is out as Neil and Alex have 4th edition, Tuesday would have been best for me but thats out. Soooo options are Saturday after Ant's DnD, which tbh I'd be exhausted and probably so would Alex so would not be ideal, Sunday after Star Wars which again, same situation or skip a week.....
Looks like we're skipping a week then folks, unless you want to play during the day on this Friday or Monday.

Dave, could you look up my wisdom score for me? I want to sit down and prepare my spells in advance (if you could upload what spells Neil knows that'd help too, as it'd let us synergise more effectively), to save time at the start of next session.

Well its not finished, but this will do for now. Behold Adarai, the world in which you adventure: photobucket unfortunately caps the size, so some of the place names are hard to read. I can give people the full sized one (4200x2600) if they request it. For player's reference: Tartarus is in the North East of the map, on the plain above Kazeer and next to Claw Lake. Elasai is just South of Tartarus. Derathar (to the West of Kazeer) is the largest human Kingdom, named after its Capital city, which is situated just below the continent name. Atherby to the North is also Human lands, but far more rural, while Kravenfort to the South is a bustling trade port, a remnant from the Caranvar Invasion (roughly 200 years ago). Mirin is the Dwarf Stronghold to the Southeast of Derathar, built deep into the Mountains. Despite the image of Dwarves as deeprock shut-ins, they share areas of Near (between Mirin and Kravenfort) with humans and have the port town of Garamar to the South. The Mzeethar Rift separates the Orcish and Human homelands. The Orcish capital is Mor'Kar, though prominent settlements include Ly'Kresh, War and Kryskarr. The Orcs have an ancient tribal prideland that joins the lands of Mzeethar to the Stormtooth Peninsula (named after the ancient Ogre Warmage Stormtooth) named Anamarkarrenthresh (Ana-mar-car-en-fresh). None but Orcs have ever stepped foot there. The elven lands are far South, in the lush forests of Tyrinfell. Across Emerald and the Hushwood they also have the settlements of Othia and Liseth. Contact with elves by the other races is rare due to their location and the danger of travelling the surrounding lands, though travel to the Elvish harbour of Wysht is possible, if not advised. Gnomes used to have a great city on Emerron named Mesmer. They were pioneers in magical research, but the city was seized by demons 500 years ago and they were forced to flee. Gnomes are now a mostly nomadic race: the few settlements they have are all in the territories of others (Eastfern in Derathar and Kyan in Terrinfell). Halflings live freely amongst humans and their lands, though they are viewed with stigma and considered untrustworthy by the majority. The other lands it is best not to speak of....

A few notes:
Status on this weeks game has not been decided on account of not being sure if Alex is available. If and when I hear back from him, we'll arrange stuffs.
In regard to character histories: again, still not vital as of yet, but as with all things the sooner the better. All you need is a motivation to be in Tartarus. The more you give me, the more I can do with it so be creative!
