My house has dynamic IP, it only changes when I switch off the server. I physically host it myself.

Right.
I am going to overhall the server to be a RolePlaying server with economy and some actual drive.
I will overhaul the rules and regulations to facilitate this.
I will also increase the max server load so that (hopefully) more people will come online.
This will result in the current world being deleted and a rollover to bukkit (possibly)

Really? I was actually quite attached to my creation on that world. A warning would have been nice.

I haven't done it yet, and I can provide an image of the world file if you would like it. And also, the above is a warning.
Remember that this service is entirely free and payed for by me in hardware, electricity and bandwidth.
Currently I would like to use the internet for other things thus the server being down.

Nah, I appreciate the offer but a single-player copy of the world would sort of defeat the point. These days I only really play minecraft in multiplayer - building lifeless edifices in your own isolated world loses its charm after a while. Building 500-block collosi on public land is somewhat more fun. My apologies, I assumed you had already put the above into action. I am aware that you funded this project in its entirety and am grateful for the service provided. I would advise, however, seeing how much interest there is in a roleplaying server, or more structured form of playing in general; before putting it permanently into action. I don't know if you have opened this server to other forums or groups of people, but if you have only made it available to this forum and, say, only a few people are interested in playing on an RP server; then the money spent on setting up the server computer will have gone to waste. This is not me telling you what to do with your server or your money, and not really complaining about the decision to make it an RP server (although I personally will likely frequent it less often). I'm just pointing out that, ironically, running a multiplayer server is a lot like an RPG - for a long-lived and successful game / server, it's wise to gauge what your audience wants before jumping into decisions.

The server is open to more than just this forum. Additionally I can also host multiple servers.
For example: I can run the current one alongside another, albeit using different ports (potentially).
So then. Who would be interested in a more roleplaying based server. Something literally impossible to do in single player.

I would quite like to play an RP server - I like the idea of us setting up a village and trying to make it work - but if you decide to keep it as an non-rp server, I'll still be on a lot Preferance would be for trying the RP server though.

Of course, I can sort out events and the like in an RP server.
On a side note, if the RP server idea fails I can store the old data to roll back to it!

Just a quick shout guys, I've got some paid hosting already, with Bukkit and all that stuff on it. If you were going to start a new map it would be an option to use my server. Still, mind if I grab a whitelist? My MC name is demonicsheep. Thanks, Tom

I'm leaving the whole thing as it is for now.
The servers maximum capacity is unknown but so far it has had one lag spike percieved.

What kind of internet connection are you on? And what RAM does the machine you're using have?

4 gig dedicated 3.0 ghz dualcore. On linux with 3.5 gigs allocated to the server.
High frequency ram and bus.
Internet connection works fine - running on tiscalli.
Today the system went down due to a silly bugger unplugging the server.
