Hello all, Dazmondel already put up a post with this on, but as a reminder... Just to say a whole range of experienced players want to go to this event already, ranging from myself (been doing it since i was 13) and quite a few that have never LARPed before Name: Knifewinter - Winter in the Willows Date: Evening of Friday 29th October- Afternoon sunday 31st October Location: Horley Scout Camp Site, Oxford. Price: £40 IF YOU BOOK WITHIN THE NEXT 10 DAYS (This includes food as well!) Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Steampunk Wind in the Willows Website: www.firecat-masquerade.com/winter.htmlThe idea is that, some time after the events of The Wind in the Willows, humanity was destroyed in an event called the Knifewinter. The animals rose up and took their place, scavenging the remenants of the country for food and equipment. The Badgers and Stoats retreated deaper into the Wild Wood, while Hedgehogs and Ferrets took to the road, water rats to the river and moles to their underground mines. The weasels and ferrets took control of London and began to scavenge the technology of the humans. Rabits, being the weakest of the races, became slaves, toiling away in the mines and factories. The creatures of the land meet at country fairs twice a year to meet and trade. Everyone needs meat to survive, fur to keep them warm and luxury items to hold back their feral nature. Naturaly, these events are highly political and highly dangerous. It should be a really interesting game. Toad mad scientists, weasel street gangs and ferret road warriors should make for something very different. Oxford's prety easy to get to by train or car. A taxi from the station to the camp site probably wouldn't be too much if a group were to share. More detailed info on the game can be found here: www.firecat-masquerade.com/winter.htmlNOTE: If we get enough people, we may be able to get a minibus. And it would be nice (but not essential of course) if we could go as one big group, i think in game it works to our advantage alot too with territories etc ^_^

I'll be going again, and a Minibus would be very helpful.
In terms of groups, most species benefit from being in them. Badgers and Toads are generaly solos, but can allways muck in with other groups if they want to. A 'group' in the game has to be all of the same race, for the purposes of terratory and the like, but there's nothing to stop other characters joining them (For example, there was an offical group of ferrets at the last game who had a toad join up with them. They're seperate in terms of terratory and down time, but can work together in game freely.) The game's economy is geared towards groups, I think, so banding together works quite well. It'll also probably increace the chance you won't be eaten by stoats!
That said, I played as an independant Badger last time and had a brilliant game all on my own. (Playing a doctor helped, I think, as did not wandering off alone too much.)
The last game was extreemly cool, with everyone bringing very interesting characters, wonderful costume and good roleplay. There's plenty of plot to be had, lots of mystery, some intreague and a reasonable ammount of fighting. The fox attack was particularly awesome. Working in the infirmiry and constantly patching up injured PCs gave the feeling of a prety intense battle going on outside. Three foxes vs about 25 PCs and it was a close run thing!
So yeah, definately come along, whether your new to larp or not. Everyone's really freindly and it's something quite different to any other LARP I've seen.

I just checked about what you said on the group having to be all the same species of animal, since i wasn't 100% sure that was quite right. Just to clear it up- looked at the rules again and i'll just copy and paste what they say since i cba to type it all out Your Group It is not necessary to be part of a group, regardless of your culture. You may however wish to start play as part of a group. A group is defined as: at least 3 player characters or a single Toad or Badger This is a game geared for factions. There are many great in-character reasons why groups would form and many clear benefits to playing in a group with characters all of the same culture, though this is not essential - a Group can be made up of members from more than one Culture - with the exception of Badgers or Toads as they are solitary People. Player Character Rabbits always count as part of their owner’s Group Which means, YAYYYYYYYYYY we can all go as one group ^_^ So far we have: Me- probably weasel Adele-Bunny!!! Ian- ? (he's not sure) Neil-Water rat. and Jon is also gunna be around, but he's a toad. Soooooooooo, anyone interested?

Oh, I hadn't seen that in the rules. There weren't many mixed culture groups out there at all, so that'll give you guys a unique angle on the game. Cool!

Ok boys and girls We have a group sorted for The Winter in the Willows event in october. There are quite a few of us going, some haven't confirmed ideas yet so i wont include the brief description of them. So far we have: the Brilliant And Strictly Trading Association Run by Diverse Species!
We have:
The owner, a wealthy heiress Water rat gypsy who "knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a dog" in her words. With an undying obsession with mushrooms and other substances...
A ferret travelling merchant who always knows where his gun is, with his big burly brother close by.
A Pleasant Water rat doctor with a mysteriously well stocked and refilling meat larder.
More of the crew to be announced! If anyone wants to join, just post on this thread ^_^

Same here! That way John and I won't end up getting on the train to Weston by mistake again!
Sounds like the IC group's going to be fun though. We definately need more traders at the Country Fayre, and there's allways room for more shifty people...

Ok, group update:
As you enter the shop, a sharp-suited looking weasel approaches you with a big toothy grin. "Welcome to the Blameless And Scrupulous Trading Association Run by Diverse Species! I am the Owner 'Spice Finger' Alice. I run this joint. What would you like? Spices? Potions? Nasty stuff? A drink?.... No? You just want a look around? Ok, well I'll show you who to talk to if you want something specific."
She points to the till. "There we have Caveat Emptor. He deals with all the money and stuff."
She leans close and whispers "He's a bit obsessed with the dosh you see, so I let him do his thing."
"If you look over there.. See those massive amounts of leaves? Well, hidden in that massive pile somewhere is our herbologist Yarrow. If you need anything, and I mean *anything* plant based - she's your hedgehog."
Alice looks over to two ferrets in the middle of the room. "The one looking through all the goods is my gunsmith, Clynt Caliber - anything you need for a pistol? He can find it for you. And his brother there, he's Flynt. Erm... if you're going to approach him, make sure he sees you coming towards him, and don't put your hands near any weapons... In fact, don't even frown at him... You'll be fine. Don't worry!"
Alice turns back to you, toothy grin firmly in place "So... Wanna buy some stuff?"

Ummm, Stoats are basically Red Indians. They aren't allowed to use guns. You'd better make them Ferrets. They're more the wandering cowboy type.
Who's playing the Hedgehog? If they gen an elder and take 'copy blueprints' then Insanitus can pay them of their services.
