Hey everyone, my name's Dave, I'll be coming to UWE this year for a post grad course. Number one priority was of course joining the roleplay forums As you may have guessed, I'm planning on running a traveller game and I'm hoping to spark some interest in it before I arrive. For those of you who don't know traveller is a sci-fi game that puts you in charge of your own spaceship, which more often than not has a hefty mortgage to be paid off. Try and imagine a crossover of firefly, star trek and starship troopers. Let me know if your interested! (I hope someone is, I just went out and bought the rule book, I probably should have checked beforehand )

Hi Dave, welcome to UWE. Sounds like an interesting game. Unfortunately I (and many others) are already fully booked in regard to games, and with the schedule upheaval of the academic year's timetables just around the corner, I would imagine you may struggle to find players. My suggestion would be to wait a few weeks, then come along to our post-Freshers'-Fair meeting. God willing, we will have a lot of new members there, and our old timers will be in attendance too; so it will be the best place to market any new games people are considering running. Also, please drop by our stall at Fresher's Fair itself and say hi. Cheers ~Alex

Hey, I would be interested I know I'm not -technically- a member, but, well, meh. What sort of system is it? Also, what are you studying?

Good luck, pointy!
I might be willing to give it a try - depending on the location more than everything. I study at Bower Ashton, not Frenchay...

The system uses 2d6 and adding them together for most things , and you're aiming for a target number, which is pretty much always going to be 8. Various dice modifiers (DM) are added to or taken away from your 2d6 roll, such as from characteristics and skills, or difficulty.
I'm doing an MSc in Transport Planning, which is done on Frenchay campus. But because I'll be living in the city centre I wont be tied to just doing things on Frenchay.

Still haven't heard back from some of the people who signed up for this game. In case you didn't get my e-mail, as well for others who may be interested, heres the details again.
Looks like it will be running on wednesday evenings, after the anime people have done their thing to accomodate those who will attending it (may not be this week depending on people getting back to me in time to organise things). So far I have had one request for it to run in the city centre and one for on Frenchay. I'm happy to do either, or somewhere else if there is support for it, but my place in the city centre isn't overly suitable.
First session is going to be just character and ship generation as this can take a long time, and I will need information on your characters to write the story. For this session it will be to have a rough idea on what character you might like to play, heres a very quick rundown of the options: Characteristics traveller uses are Strength, Dexterity, Endurance, Intelligence, Education and Social Standing Careers available (slightly different to most games where classes are used, i'll go into more detail in the session) are Agent, Army, Citizen, Drifter, Entertainer, Marines, Merchant, Navy, Nobility, Rogue, Scholar and Scout. Most of these are quite self explanitory, but if you have any questions before the first session feel free to ask.

Hi there, I couldn't go to the first meeting so i haven't filled any form. But anyway, if you're thinking on playing somewhere in the city centre I might be willing to play. The only inconvenient is that on Wednesdays I may have lectures at Bower Ashton and a rehearsal at Cube Cinema from 5:30 to 7:30 - but would be willing to play after dinner. But don't mind me - if you have more people willing to play at a different time/place, go ahead! I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunities later on!

The game i fought might be on wednesday has changed days so i should now be able to do it on wednesdays after anime (it finishes at about 6:15 -6:30). (though i probaly wouldn't be able to make it if its in the city center).
Now and then though anime does yugioh card tornaments after the meeting (not that often though) so if it is on i will probally have to miss that week.

The first person who was orginally asking before for the game to take place in the city centre has now dropped out, and as i've had a few more requests for Frenchay the game will be running there, on Wednesday evenings. If people who aren't doing anime try to turn up at about 6 we can get settled before the others turn up at 6:15-30. I'll post again later with the room once its been booked.

Is there still space in this? I'd like to join if there is a gap left.

Not all of the people who originally signed up to this have been in contact with me, so I currently dont know the exact number of people interested (if you did originally sign up and are still interested please post that you are). Hopefully I'll be able to get back to you soon if theres a space
